Three Leavittsburg fires close together considered suspicious

LEAVITTSBURG

The Warren Township Fire Department, with help from its mutual-aid partners Champion and Braceville townships, battled three fires within an hour and a mile of one other early Tuesday.

The fires occurred at abandoned homes in the Meadowbrook area. All are considered suspicious in origin, said Warren Township Fire Chief Kenneth Schick.

“It’s the first time in my 38 years that we’ve had three fires at the same time,” Schick said. The Trumbull County Fire Investigative Unit is investigating.

The first was a garage fire at 1:22 a.m. at 4727 Meadowbrook Drive, followed by a house fire at 4211 Masters Road at 2:01 a.m. and a house fire at 4539 Eagle Creek Road at 2:24 a.m.

In fact, a firefighter filling up a tanker truck at a hydrant while battling the blaze on Masters was the first to notice the Eagle Creek fire, Schick said. Those two fires were less than a quarter of a mile from each other.

The Warren Township, Champion and Braceville fire departments automatically respond to one another’s fire calls in nearly every case, Schick said.
