Child found with dog

WARREN

Police were called to Iddings Avenue Southeast at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday for a lost, naked child in the backyard.

When police arrived, the adults had put a shirt on the girl, who was accompanied by a pit-bull dog that “did not leave her side.”

Officers determined the girl lived on Grant Street and knocked at the door and rang the bell until the girl’s mother answered.

The woman said she thought the child was playing in the bathtub with no water. The tub had toys in it, an officer said.

The child was missing from the home at least 20 minutes before the mother realized she had gotten out of the house, police said.

The home was clean, and there was food in the house. Police did not indicate that they referred the matter to any other agency.

Drugs found on man

Police cited a man for possession of dangerous drugs after they found 16 pills in a bottle in his pocket and $50 in cash on an East Side street about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday

Reports said officers were called to the first block of Kendis Circle for a complaint about a man dealing drugs, and they saw Ryan Friendly, 23, of Youngstown, standing in front of a home there. Friendly matched the description of the person who was selling drugs, reports said.

Police went to talk to Friendly and saw a pill bottle in his pocket and the cash in a plastic bag, reports said. He was released after he was given his citation.

Arrested on warrant

YOUNGSTOWN

Police investigating a fight arrested a man on a warrant about 5:40 p.m. in the 200 block of Dupont Avenue.

Reports said officers were called there for a fight and saw a man and woman in the street holding baseball bats. The woman said she and the man were looking for her boyfriend, with whom the man had fought before.

Police ran a records check and discovered the man, James Franklin, 23, of East Myrtle Avenue, had a warrant out of municipal court for failure to appear. He was arrested and taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Interviews continue

BOARDMAN

Boardman Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. today to continue interviews of candidates for the open board seat. The board began interviewing candidates Wednesday. The vacancy was created by the death last month of Nik Amstutz, who had served as board president.

Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority will meet at noon today in the board room at Amedia Plaza, 131 W. Boardman St.

2 fail to register

WARREN

Two sex offenders were sentenced to prison Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court for failing to register their change of address with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office.

William J. Miller, 36, of state Route 305 in Southington was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to the charge.

He failed to notify the sheriff’s office of his address when he moved to the residence near Hoffman-Norton Road because of registration requirements imposed after his 2002 rape conviction and 1999 abduction conviction, both in Portage County.

Judge W. Wyatt McKay also sentenced Paul E. Ellis Jr., 35, of Northwest Boulevard Northwest to 18 months in prison for failing to report his change of address. He was required to register because of an earlier sex-related conviction.
