“Tigers Be Still,SDRq directed by Christopher Fidram, Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, Youngstown, auditions are 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Characters needed include Sherry, a woman in her early 20s, Grace, a woman in her late 20s, Zack, a male about 18, and Joseph, a male in his 50s. All roles are open, and those auditioning will be required to read from the script. The play follows Sherry Wickman, a woman who recently earned a master’s degree in art therapy and finds an unexpected employment opportunity that brings her purpose and hope, although the rest of her life is in shambles. “Violet,SDRq directed by Edward Kuntzman, Carnation City Players, Firehouse Theater, 450 E. Market St., Alliance, open-call auditions at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 and 4. Auditionees are asked to prepare 32 bars of music in the style of the show; an accompanist will be provided, no a cappella. Head shots and resumes are appreciated but not required. Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. No appointments are necessary. Age 13 and older only. The production is particularly in need of African-American actors to portray the role of Flick, a soldier, and a gospel soloist who also doubles as a landlady and a woman knitting. The musical is set in the deep South during the civil-rights era and follows a young woman’s quest for beauty amid the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. The namesake character was facially disfigured in a childhood accident and dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith; she hopes a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her, and travels there on a bus, finding unlikely friendships during her trip. Performances are Oct. 10-11 and 17-19, with Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
