Judge orders fixes

The judge in the Oakhill case has ordered the prosecution to fix grammatical, spelling and typographical errors in the indictment against Youngstown Mayor John McNally, Mahoning County Auditor Michael Sciortino and Atty. Martin Yavorcik, a one-time candidate from Mahoning County prosecutor.

The prosecutors in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court case have until July 25 to make the corrections.

Husband, wife arrested

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a husband and wife and charged them with breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools early Tuesday in a South Side home.

Roger DeWitt, 39, and his wife, Kelly DeWitt, 30, were both taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Officers were called for an alarm at a home in the 500 block of West Indianola Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. While there they saw a door open at a home next door and heard glass breaking.

The homeowner said he used the other home for his business. and officers went inside and searched it. They found a backpack with scrap metal inside, then found the DeWitts in a bedroom closet, reports said. Inside the backpack were several tools such as a wirecutter and a screwdriver.

Summons sent to teen

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Police have sent a summons to a 15-year old Austintown male for five felony counts of gross sexual imposition with his 8-year old stepsister.

New Middletown Police Chief Vincent D’Egidio said the teen “sexually assaulted her at least five times.” His name is being withheld.

The five felony counts are all third-degree and he will be in front of the Mahoning County Juvenile Court judge in six weeks.

D’Egidio said the case started May 31 when “a family member caught him with the completion of the first incident.”

The investigation found the relations began in January.

The teen lives in Austintown with his biological father and visited his mother, who is remarried, and her family in New Middletown.

Anniversary concludes

Home Savings wrapped up its 125 Days of Giving with a $125 gift card to Help Hotline Crisis Center.

To celebrate its 125th anniversary, on Jan. 15 Home Savings kicked off 125 days of giving away a $125 gift to “worthy recipients whom we believe make a difference,” said Colleen Scott, Home Savings vice president, marketing director.

On July 11, it gave its last $125 gift card to Help Hotline.

In total, Home Savings gave $15,625 to worthy recipients in its market area, Scott said.

Police probe break-ins

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating break-ins at two businesses over the weekend.

Reports said someone took 40 motors from Allied Erecting and Dismantling, 2100 Poland Ave.

Employees arriving for work Monday morning discovered the theft, reports said.

A fence was cut to get inside.

Also missing were 156 batteries, six air conditioners and copper wiring from Diver Steel City, 590 Himrod Ave.

Employees arriving for work Monday watched surveillance video and observed two men with hooded sweatshirts get inside the fence.

One man threw something that knocked the camera askew, reports said.

Cops investigate crash

YOUNGSTOWN

Police say someone crashed a stolen car on the East Side early Tuesday and ran away.

Police were called at about 8 a.m. to an auto-body shop near McGuffey and Liberty roads where a car was on its roof.

Police found no signs of the driver, but there was blood in the car.

A records check showed the car reported as stolen from Farrell, Pa., earlier Tuesday.

The car was cold, and police estimate it had been there for a couple of hours before they were called.

Men face charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested two men for their role in a Monday afternoon fight on the lower West Side.

Officers were called for a fight at Manhattan and Maryland avenues at about 5:45 p.m. They found one man had been hit five times in the head with a wrench and another man had been hit in the arm with a board.

The men said that they were fighting with another man, Christopher West, 45. West claimed one of the two men, who are brothers, hit him.

West was arrested on a charge of felonious assault, accused of hitting one of the brothers with the wrench. One of the brothers, Michael Datillo, 33, was arrested on the same charge, accused of hitting one of West’s friends with a baseball bat.

Both men were taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Gov. John Kasich appointed Bryce A. Miner of Columbiana to be a student member on the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees for a term beginning Tuesday and ending April 30, 2016.

Streets to close

YOUNGSTOWN

The following streets in downtontown Youngstown will be closed for the YMCA Triathlon from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Commerce, from Walnut to Symphony Place; Walnut, from East Federal to Commerce; Symphony Place, from Commerce to Federal; Federal from Symphony Place to Belmont Avenue; Hazel, from Commerce to Youngstown State University; Rayen and Lincoln avenues closed to Hazel only; Mahoning Avenue, from bridge to West Avenue; and Old Furnace Road, from Bears Den to Park entrance (local traffic only). Also, the lanes will be narrowed on U.S Route 62/Canfield Road at Lanterman Mill Bridge.

Any secondary streets within the downtown and event area may be affected and also subjected to closure.

Plaza event planned

YOUNGSTOWN

The sidewalk and front area of Warehouse 50, 47 W. Federal St., will be closed for Party on the Plaza from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday.
