ASK MR. KNOW IT ALL

Q. I’m enjoying reruns of “The Rifleman.” Is Chuck Connors still alive? I know on the TV series he had a ranch near North Fork, but in which state?

K.L., Portland, Maine

A. “The Rifleman” aired from 1958 to 1963; the show was set in the 1870s and 1880s in the fictional town of North Fork in the New Mexico Territory.

Chuck Connors died Nov. 10, 1992, at age 71.

Q. After the ending of “Dragnet” and several other TV shows, there is a pair of grimy, sweaty hands, one hand holds a stamp, the other with a hammer hitting it once or twice, depending on the year of production. The hand is removed and the impression “VII” is seen imprinted above the word “MARK” and below “LIMITED.” What is MARK VII LIMITED?

J.L.L., Festus, Missouri

A. Mark VII Limited (or Mark Seven Limited) was the production company of actor, producer and director Jack Webb. Webb’s three seminal series, “Dragnet,” “Adam-12” and “Emergency!” are among the more than a dozen shows the production company produced. Mark VII Limited was active from 1951 to Webb’s death in 1982.
