ACH named one of ‘most wired’ in US

AKRON

Akron Children’s Hospital has been named one of the country’s “Most Wired” hospitals for 2014.

This is the 16th anniversary of the health care industry’s “Most Wired Survey,” conducted as a joint effort by the American Hospital Association, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, AT&T and the McKesson Corporation.

Sixty-seven percent of Most Wired hospitals share patient information electronically with specialists and other care providers, which reduces the likelihood of medical errors. Among Most Wired hospitals, 81 percent of medications are matched to the patient, nurse and order via bar code technology at the bedside. The rate at Akron Children’s is 97 percent.

Dr. Ahn joins ACH

AKRON

Dr. Jennifer Ahn has joined Akron Children’s Hospital’s Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine, which provides care for women in high-risk pregnancies.

Dr. Ahn, director of the center’s new OB Ultrasound and Antenatal Testing Center, delivers babies at Akron General Medical Center and Summa Akron City Hospital. She also consults with obstetricians whose high-risk patients are able to deliver at their local community hospitals.

Prior to joining Akron Children’s, Dr. Ahn was an attending physician at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System, where she was director of High-Risk OB Clinics, the Antenatal Diagnostic Center, and the Diabetes in Pregnancy Program. She was also assistant director of OB-GYN ultrasound.

Dr. Ahn is a graduate of the Northeast Ohio Medical University. Following medical school, she completed her residency in obstetrics-gynecology at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., and then completed her fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals.

UPMC receives multiple awards

PITTSBURGH

For its efforts to improve patient care by changing the way clinicians access and view data from electronic medical records, the UPMC Technology Development Center (TDC) has received the Innovator Award from “Hospitals & Health Networks,” the journal of the American Hospital Association.

UPMC was also named one of the “Most Wired” health systems in the country for the 16th consecutive year; and Kane Community Hospital, affiliated with UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., was recognized with the “Most Wired—Small and Rural” award for the seventh time. Most Wired hospitals meet criteria in four categories: Infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration. The TDC won the Innovator Award for its development of “Convergence,” a tablet-based platform that extracts patient data from a variety of clinical information systems.
