Golden Globe producers, organizers settle lawsuit

LOS ANGELES

The organization that puts on the Golden Globe Awards and the company that produces the telecast have resolved their long-standing court battle over rights to the show.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions announced Monday that the 2010 lawsuit has been settled. The terms were not revealed.

The dispute arose after Dick Clark Productions negotiated a deal to keep the Globes show on NBC through 2018. The production company claimed it has the right to work on the show as long as it airs on NBC, but the association argued that it never agreed to those terms.

‘Book of Life’ animates Day of the Dead

LOS ANGELES

Guillermo del Toro is helping to open the “Book of Life.”

The Oscar winner is producing the animated feature by first-time director Jorge Gutierrez, and joined him at Fox Studios on Monday to unveil footage from the film.

“Book of Life” is rich with imagery from Mexican folklore, with a special emphasis on the Day of the Dead, the food- and music-filled celebration of the annual return of the spirits of deceased loved ones.

The story centers on two best friends angling for the girl of their dreams, not realizing that otherworldly powers have a stake in the outcome.

Zoe Saldana, Channing Tatum and Diego Luna lead the voice cast. The film features ranchera interpretations of popular songs by Mumford & Sons, Radiohead, Rod Stewart and others.

It opens Oct. 17.
