Pilot buys pizzas for passengers grounded by storm in Wyo.
CHEYENNE, Wyo.
A Frontier Airlines pilot treated his passengers to pizza when storms diverted a Denver-bound flight to Cheyenne, where the plane was stuck for a couple of hours.
Cheyenne Domino’s Pizza manager Andrew Ritchie told The Associated Press he got a call about 10 p.m. Monday just as he was about to send employees home. He says the pilot told him he needed to feed 160 people — fast.
Ritchie says his crew made about 35 pizzas and delivered them to the airport, where the driver handed the food off to flight attendants.
One of the passengers sent KUSA-TV a picture of flight attendants handing pizza boxes to people.
The television station reports that the flight to Denver, which originated in Washington, D.C., left Cheyenne about 10:30 p.m., shortly after the pizzas arrived.
Driver blames turtle, cat, squirrel, tree in wreck
BRYAN, Texas
Police say a man arrested for drunken driving blamed a turtle, a cat, a squirrel and an overhanging tree in a central Texas wreck.
When police arrived at the scene just southeast of College Station, the 33-year-old slurring driver was still in his seat and unaware of his location.
A witness told officers the driver passed him on the right shoulder, hit a guardrail, left the road and struck a tree.
The Eagle of Bryan-College Station reports the North Zulch man told officers he swerved to avoid the critters and hit the tree.
Police didn’t buy the explanation and charged the man with drunken driving.
Finnish couple wins quirky ‘wife carrying’ race
HELSINKI
A Finnish couple narrowly won the 19th World Wife Carrying Championships — a quirky competition in which men race to be the fastest while carrying a female teammate.
Ville Parviainen and Janette Oksman cleared the grueling 278-yard obstacle course in 63.75 seconds Saturday, less than a second ahead of Britain’s Rich Blake Smith and Anna Marguerite Smith.
Thirty-six couples from a dozen countries including Australia, Japan, and the United States took part in the race, which took place in the central Finnish municipality of Sonkajarvi, north of the capital, Helsinki.
