Correction

The editorial Wednesday on the city of Niles’ financial problems should have said that Auditor Charles Nader issued a public apology — not policy — to city council for a lack of controls that could have prevented employee theft from the treasurer’s office.

The editorial should also have said that city government paid $225,000 to lease accounting software, not purchase it.
