Sharon Ragan, a math and science teacher at the Chaney STEM Campus, has been designated a Master Teacher in recognition of her leadership and for going above and beyond the Youngstown City School District’s expectations.
Ragan, a graduate of Youngstown State University, earned a bachelor of science in education in 1988 and a master of science in elementary curriculum in 2003.
She was selected the 2011-12 YCSD Teacher of the Year and the 2014 Teacher of the Year Nominee from Chaney, awarded the Frances Kerspack ACTION Humanitarian Award in 2012, the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Math and Science, Governor’s Award for Excellence in Youth Science Opportunities, nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and acknowledged by Phi Kappa Pi and the Ohio Industrial Institute for Education.
Ragan teaches sixth-through-eighth-grade math and science in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program at the Chaney STEM Campus. She uses design and modeling (CAD), energy and the environment, robotics and automation, science of technology and medical detectives in her instruction.
She has taught in the Youngstown district for 15 years. Her goal is to attain an administrative and superintendent license/certification at YSU, and she plans to start by the end of the fall semester.

Ragan lives in Struthers with her husband, Bob, and two sons, RJ and Nick. She is the daughter of James and Dorothy Stellmar.
