Campaign underway to fund public art display downtown Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN

NEXT Best Art, a nonprofit in downtown Youngstown, released its Kickstarter campaign to fund a new public art display.

NEXT Best Art is working to create a window gallery in the westward-facing window of Silver’s Vogue Shop at West Federal and Phelps streets. The Kickstarter is running for 30 days and will end at noon Aug. 1.

The window concept is being launched as a pilot project to drive further works of public art, support and funding with a long-term goal of opening a contemporary art museum downtown.

The space is planned to rotate exhibits three times a year.

Internationally recognized artist Franz Spohn is preparing the first installation piece in his signature mosaic style, which will pay homage to the 30th anniversary of the closing of the historic Idora Park amusement park that was on the city’s South Side.
