Ariz. eatery shames art thieves

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.

Two accomplices in the theft of a painting at a Flagstaff restaurant have come forward after a shaming campaign on Facebook.

The Arizona Daily Sun reported recently that Tyler Christensen, the owner of McMillan Bar and Kitchen, went to social media instead of police after the painting went missing in June.

Christensen posted an open letter and surveillance photo of a man putting the painting in his backpack while the two accomplices acted as lookouts. He says the two accomplices have since come forward and given $500 to cover the cost of the art.

Christensen’s Facebook post has been shared more than 7,900 times and received more than 4,300 likes and nearly 770 comments. The artwork, however, was last seen hanging from a tree.

‘Redneck’ theme irks some

SALEM, N.Y.

You might be a redneck if you don’t object to a rural upstate New York town’s theme for its annual Fourth of July parade.

But some people around Salem aren’t amused by parade organizers’ decision to go with “Redneck Summer” for this year’s theme.

The volunteer fire department stages the annual holiday parade in Salem, a farming community on the Vermont border.

One organizer told The Post-Star of Glens Falls that the number of groups participating had decreased, so they decided on the redneck theme to “spice it up a little bit.”

A few people have objected, including Mary Greene. She calls the theme “disturbing,” and says redneck doesn’t have a good connotation.
