Schools, counties get less from Ohio casinos

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio counties and schools and getting a little less cash from casino taxes this time around.

The Ohio Department of Taxation will be distributing $68.6 million, the local cut of the taxes collected from casinos from October through December. That’s 2.2 percent less than the last disbursement in October.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that counties will get the biggest chunk of the money — about $35 million. Schools will get about $23 million.

The remainder goes to state’s eight largest cities, the Casino Control Commission, Ohio State Racing Commission, training for law enforcement and efforts to address problem gambling.

Casino revenue was $821 million last year — about $65 million less than the state had anticipated.
