Victim identified in New Castle shooting

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Police have identified a man found shot to death on Sciota Street at 2 a.m. Thursday as 35-year-old Robert Quincy Brown of New Castle.

A news release from the department said it appeared Brown was shot in the head. He was found lying on the ground near a vehicle, the release said.

Real-estate tax bills mailed to owners

LISBON

The Columbiana County Treasurer’s Office, 105 S. Market St., has mailed first- half 2014 real-estate tax bills to some 65,000 real-estate owners, with payments due March 7.

Also, bills for manufactured homes have been mailed with a March 14 due date.

Payments will be considered timely if postmarked on or before the due date. The late payment penalty is 10 percent of the outstanding tax.

Treasurer Linda S. Bolon said those who may have fallen delinquent should contact her office to make payment arrangements.

Crash injures driver

A man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center after a car he was driving ran into a utility pole about 10 p.m. Wednesday at Hitchcock Road and U.S. Route 224.

A dispatcher with the Canfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers are still investigating the crash, and so far, no citations have been issued. The dispatcher did not release the name of the driver.

Police: Man killed wore no seat belt

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Police say an Edinburg man who was killed in a two-vehicle accident about 3:35 p.m. Wednesday was not wearing a seat belt.

New Castle Police said Robert McQuiston, 63, was driving west on West State Street near Jones Street when he lost control, crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle driven by 59-year-old Sherry Settle of New Castle that was heading east.

McQuiston died a short time later at Jameson Memorial Hospital, a news release said. Settle was treated for her injuries at Jameson. She was wearing a seat belt. The accident is under investigation.

Fire destroys home

YOUNGSTOWN

A man was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire about 6:40 a.m. Thursday that destroyed a 448 S. Pearl St. home.

Reports said a fire started in a wall on the first floor and moved to the second floor. Reports said the thermostat was in the part of the wall that burned.

The building’s owner said he would have an electrician check the building.

Damage is listed at $6,000 which is also the value of the building. An investigation is continuing.
