BGMS girls down St. Christine’s

The Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade girls basketball team won its sixth game of the season by defeating St. Christine’s team 31-18.

Leading scorers were Brooke Hoffman (11), Kaylin Burkey (8), Cate Green (4), Jenna Benko (2), Kara Boerio (2), Kailee James (2) and Hannah Nawrocki (2). Passes from Emily Carnahan and Jenny Taraszewski added to the win.

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade boys basketball team lost to St. Christine’s 43-33. Nick Torres, Ryan Archey and Che Trevena each scored nine points, while Zach Larrier and Nikitas Missos scored four and two points, respectively. The boys fell to 5-4 on the season.

The BGMS eighth-grade boys basketball team lost at St. Christine’s. The boys battled back from nine points down in the fourth quarter to tie the game. The team fought back with great defense and a 20 point fourth quarter but fell 45-42. The Spartans are now 7-2

BGMS girls fall to 5-3

The Boardman Glenwood seventh-grade girls lost to Canfield Middle School 29-9. Leading scorers were Kaylin Burkey (4), Jenna Benko (2), Brooke Hoffman (2) and Kailee James (1). The girls are now 5-3.

The eighth-grade Lady Spartans played one of the best halves of their season against Canfield. With great defensive effort and execution offensively, the Spartans trailed by six at the half. The second half did not go as well and the team fell 40-18.

BGMS sweeps Canfield

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade boys basketball beat a previously undefeated Canfield team in a double overtime thriller 43-38. Ryan Archey and Nick Torres led the Spartans with 14 points each and Che Trevena’s 10 points and tough play down the stretch helped the boys pull away from Canfield.

Michael Fetsko hit a clutch three pointer in the fourth quarter and Nikita’s Missos added two points and was a powerful force on the defensive end. The boys improved to 5-3 on the season.

The eighth-grade boys basketball team won 37-32 Canfield to improve to 7-1 on the season.

The team led most of the way but overcame a two point deficit with under 90 seconds to play for the victory and their most impressive win on the season. Noah Falleti led the way with 18 points, Brian Terlesky added 11 points including going 6-6 from the line with big free throws down the stretch. Billy Cammack added four points, while Jarod Wilson and Antonio Page added a bucket each.

You don’t have to be a writer — just send us the information and we’ll put it all together. When emailing pictures, send them as JPEG files as large as possible.

Provide caption information and where people are located from left to right, front row to back. The sports news we’re looking for ranges from high school teams down to middle school and even elementary and recreational leagues.

And not just basketball – we want wrestling, bowling, swimming, gymnastics and hockey, too.
