Delta Kappa Gamma Mu Chapter was founded Jan. 11, 1939, in Youngstown. It is the oldest local chapter of a professional society for women educators with more than 85,000 members in 18 countries.
The society’s mission is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
Some of the projects the Mu Chapter supports are the Youngstown State University English Festival, the Beatitude House, the YWCA Young Women With Bright Futures Awards events, and the Delta Kappa Gamma-YSU scholarship.
The organization celebrated its 75th anniversary with a dinner meeting in December at the Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield. Seasoned members were honored with poinsettia plants and were the guests of honor. Ruth Stevenson joined in 1955; Leslie Kiske, Frances Ritz and Margaret Remias joined in 1964; and Bessie Veck joined in 1966.
All those attending received anniversary bracelets with silver roses and red stones.
Mu Chapter officers are Agnes Campanale, president; Dr. Patricia Kelvin, vice president; Frances Kachmar, secretary; Janice Donlin, treasurer; and Rita Herchik, parliamentarian.
