BOARDMAN

The board of education will ask voters to renew two tax levies in May.

The board agreed Monday to place both a three-year and a five-year renewal levy on the May ballot. Both tax levies provide funding for the emergency requirements of the school district.

The three-year levy produces $1,468,744 each year. The rate is 1.8 mills. Voters last renewed it in November 2010.

The five-year levy produces $1,999,547 each year at a rate of 2.4 mills. It was last renewed in November 2008.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the board approved a five-year lease with Key Government Finance for voice-over internet protocol hardware, network upgrades and software installation in the district’s seven buildings. It will update the district’s voice communication system and internet network.

The deal will be at a cost of $3,400.37 per month.

At the end of the lease, the district can purchase the equipment for $1 each, said Tim Saxton, director of operations.

“We’re going to do a complete network refresh,” he said. “That’s going to help us have a solid foundation for years to come.”
