BREAKING NEWS | Beagles now in custody of Mahoning County Dog Warden

YOUNGSTOWN — Two beagles who have attracted international attention for being left outside in frigid weather Saturday are now in the custody of the Mahoning County Dog Warden’s Office.

Dave Nelson of the office said the owner of the dogs turned them over to him this morning because of the intense scrutiny he has been receiving on social media websites.

Nelson said the dogs, ages 6 and 12, are both in good health, and the dog warden’s office will try and find homes for them.

Earlier today, humane agents with Animal Charity visited the home in the 2500 block of Stocker Avenue on the East Side and said they had been told the dogs had been taken inside.

Police were called to the home Saturday by neighbors who complained about the dogs being left outside in cold weather and they left a note for the owner to call them and referred the case to the humane agents. The owner of the dogs contacted police and took the dogs inside after speaking to police.

Police said today they had received calls and emails from around the country and across the globe, including from Italy and France, about the beagles.
