Hiking, clinic set for next Sunday

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA.

A Winter Hiking and Backpacking Basics informational clinic will be offered at Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, at 2 p.m. next Sunday.

Participants in the event will learn to confidently enjoy winter on the trail by learning about special techniques, skills and equipment that make hiking and backpacking in winter more safe and enjoyable. Some time will be spent outdoors, so participants should dress in warm layers with waterproof footwear.

No fee or registration is required for the event.

MERCER, PA.

Officials with the Mercer County Bureau of Elections say Friday is the campaign finance filing deadline for candidates, treasurers of political committees, lobbyists or private citizens to file annual expense reports or statements. The reports must be complete as of Dec. 31, 2013.

Mailed reports are considered timely filed as long as they are postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service no later than Jan. 30, said Jeffrey W. Greenburg, the county’s director of elections.
