Child hit by BB

YOUNGSTOWN

A 10-year-old child was shot with a BB gun once in the back on East Judson Avenue on the city’s South Side about 3 p.m. Saturday.

“The circumstances and facts are unclear,” said Police Chief Robin Lees.

A pellet was recovered in the boy’s clothing, according to police.

The child was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, but police say he wasn’t seriously hurt.

No arrest was made as of late Saturday.

Hermitage house fire

HERMITAGE, PA.

Fire caused major damage to a house at 2650 Teaberry Lane.

The blaze was reported at 7:29 a.m. Saturday and the house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived minutes later, according to the Mercer County 911 center.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will meet Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. A social and refreshment time will begin at 6 p.m. with the business meeting at 6:30.

President Hank Zimmerman will officiate, and Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will attend to report on matters pertaining to Brownlee Woods.

The meeting will also include the election of 2014 officers.

Abuse prevention

CHAMPION

The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention Opiate Task Force is sponsoring an event to educate the public on recovery from alcohol and drug addiction from 6 to 8 p.m. March 22 at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center on Educational Highway.

The event will include local residents speaking about their personal experiences, including a mother of an addict, an emergency-room physician, a law-enforcement representative and the executive director of the Trumbull County Mental Health & Recovery Board.

An episode of the HBO documentary “Addiction” will be shown. Families and concerned citizens are invited to hear ways they can help.
