Snow emergency
YOUNGSTOWN
Charles T. Shasho, deputy director of public works, has declared a snow emergency effective at noon today until further notice.
During a snow emergency, parking is prohibited on all streets except those streets or alleys that have a width of 25 feet or less, providing no driveway facilities. Any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance will be subject to removal by towing at the owner’s expense. A snow emergency occurs when there is snow accumulation of 4 inches or more.
Contract approved
McDONALD
The board of education has approved a contract with 14 nonteaching employees, retroactive to Sept. 1, 2013. Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local No. 166 members will receive 2.75 percent increases in each of the three years of the contract, which ends Aug. 31, 2016.
All employees had taken a wage freeze in their last three-year contract. The nonteaching employees will stay with their current 10 percent co-pay for their health-insurance program, but will receive a $1,500 one time lump-sum payment.
A contract for McDonald Education Association teachers provides the same 2.75 percent raise, but teachers were returned to a 20 percent co-pay for health coverage from their previous 10 percent.
Burglary probed
CAMPBELL
Police are investigating burglary of a residence in the 100 block of Columbus Avenue that occurred between Dec. 23, when the homeowner was arrested on a warrant, and Thursday when he was released from jail.
The homeowner, 36, told police he noticed several items missing — a 32-inch LCD TV, gaming consoles and games, a laptop computer, tattoo guns and clothing. His basement door also was knocked in from the bottom, according to the police report.
He added that he gave a 32-year-old female house keys to take care of his cats and dog while he was incarcerated, but was unable to get in contact with her during that time. He believes she and an accomplice took the items. In addition, the animals the woman was supposed to care for are malnourished, and one cat died.
