FIVE Squared, a benefit art show and sale at the Davis Family YMCA, will open Feb. 2 and run through March 9.

More than 300 pieces of unframed 5x5 foot art will be available for purchase at $25 each. Contributing artists hail from nine countries and ten states, with the oldest a centenarian, and the most distant from Iran and China. Many well-known, award-winning local artists have donated art to this event.

Internationally acclaimed artist, activist and author, Faith Ringgold, contributed two signed pieces. Some of her major works are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the MOMA, and the Guggenheim. She is best known for her story quilts, which weave a rich history of black America. Ringgold’s pieces will be sold at a silent auction.

The opening reception for FIVE Squared will take place at 45 McClurg Road in Boardman on Feb. 2 from 1-2:30 p.m. This will be the only opportunity to see the entire collection. Sales of the art will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be taken off the wall when sold. All proceeds benefit the Y’s Arts and Humanities scholarship fund for under-served children and families in the Mahoning Valley.

This event is free and open to the community.
