CAMPBELL

City police are searching for a 2014 green Subaru Outback reported missing Thursday morning from a garage in the 100 block of Gladstone Street.

A 78-year-old Gladstone resident contacted police at 3:30 a.m. Thursday to report the theft. He told police that he’d awoken shortly beforehand, opened his garage by remote control and noticed the car missing.

The resident added that the garage had been locked. He said, too, that a key to the car had gone missing about two weeks ago.

A 19-year-old grandson, who also lives at the residence, told police that he had no knowledge of the car being stolen, and that he had left the house at 2 a.m. to meet friends.

Police, who observed that the side door of the garage was locked, preventing it from being manually lifted, concluded someone in the house opened the garage door via remote control and used the missing key to steal the car. The theft is still under investigation.
