Police say a man shot his stepson Tuesday in a Market Street thrift store.

Brian Larew, 46, was arraigned on a charge of felonious assault Wednesday. He remains in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of $35,000 bond.

Police were called to Miss Pat’s Thrift and Collectibles, 519 Market St., just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a shooting.

Patricia Larew said in reports that she was helping a customer when she heard Brian Larew argue with her son, 19-year-old Brandon Larew, and that Brandon Larew raised a candelabra up as if to hit Brian Larew.

However, Brian shot Brandon in the hand, paused and then fired several more times, according to her statement.

Brandon Larew told police they had argued, and he was about to leave the store when Brian Larew fired a shot at him and hit him in the wrist, and then fired several more shots and hit him in the leg. He is being treated for his wounds at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Police collected several shell casings at the store before arresting the elder Larew.

If Brian Larew can post bond, he was ordered by Magistrate Anthony Sertuck to have no contact with his stepson.
