Jury selection was underway Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for a man accused of shooting two people in 2009.

Cametrius Adams, 36, of Trumbull Court in Liberty, faces two counts of felonious assault and a single count of attempted murder in the July 11, 2009, shooting that wounded Americka Brown, 19 at the time, of East Lucius Avenue; and her 22-year-old brother, Aaron Wright, also of East Lucius Avenue.

Police said Brown was shot several times as Adams stood over her, and Wright was shot in the legs as he tried to run away.

Police said they found .45- caliber and 9 mm shell casings at the scene.

A co-defendant, Jamond Robinson, 23, pleaded guilty to a charge of felonious assault in March 2012, and in March 2013 Judge Maureen Sweeney ordered his sentencing stayed.

Court records show that Adams’ case was dismissed in November 2012 after Judge Sweeney overruled a motion from prosecutors to continue the trial because a key prosecution witness could not be found.

Adams was re-indicted on the charges in April 2013, and in her order granting a stay for Robinson’s sentencing, she noted that prosecutors deemed his testimony important as well.
