Traffic stop uncovers concealed handgun

YOUNGSTOWN

Police seized a .22-caliber handgun about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday on the South Side after stopping a car for failing to stop at a stop sign.

Two members of the vice squad on patrol pulled over a car driven by 33-year-old Montrell Gilbert of Youngstown at East Avondale Avenue and Market Street, and they noticed he was fidgeting with his hands when they talked to him, reports said.

When officers took him out of the car they found the gun wedged between the driver’s seat and center console, reports said.

Gilbert was taken to the Mahoning County jail on the charges of carrying a concealed weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
