Man arrested for painting downtown buildings

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a man early Monday morning downtown who witnesses said had spray-painted a building.

Logan McQuade, 22, of Mahoning Avenue, originally was charged with eight counts of criminal mischief after he was arrested just before 1 a.m., but he was released from the jail a couple of hours later and ordered to appear Tuesday in municipal court, where he was arraigned on a single count of criminal mischief and a count of possession of criminal tools.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 27.

Police were alerted by off-duty Humility of Mary Health Partners officers who said they saw three men spray paint a building on West Federal Street and then get into a black SUV. Police found the men at the SUV, and one of them said they told McQuade not to paint the building, reports said.

McQuade had painted “OG” on the building and said he did not remember all the other places he had painted, reports said. He also was holding a can of spray paint.

Reports said officers checked the downtown area and found the OG tag on other buildings downtown and inside the restroom of a couple of downtown bars.

The other two men were not charged.
