Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music will present five Music at Noon performancesSFlbthis semester. Each will be at 12:15 p.m. on a Wednesday at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Admission is free. Here is the schedule:

v Jan. 29: Faculty recital with Alice Wang, clarinet; Kathryn Thomas Umble, flute; and Stacie Mickens, horn.

v Feb. 5: Clarinet Studio recital.

v Feb. 12: Tuba and euphonium recital.

v Feb. 19: Flute Studio recital.

v Feb. 26: Choral music.

“American Masters: SALINGER” (9 P.M., PBS): “American Masters: Salinger” recalls the life of J.D. Salinger, the enigmatic author who stepped away from the spotlight after the success of “The Catcher in the Rye.” This version of Shane Salerno’s film contains 15 minutes of material not seen in theaters.

“Opposite Worlds” (10 p.m., Syfy): Reality TV gets even weirder with “Opposite Worlds.” It’s a competition in which opposing teams live in a house separated into two distinctly different worlds: one past and one future, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

Folds to perform with orchestra

PITTSBURGH

Ben Folds will perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on June 17 at Heinz Hall. Tickets start at $30 and go on sale Feb. 10. Call 412-392-4900, or go to pittsburghsymphony.com.

The rock pianist and former leader of the Ben Folds Five will feature his new classical piano concerto as well as his pop-hit arrangements.

Folds has performed with some of the world’s greatest orchestras, including at Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra and at the Boston Pops. He played with the Pittsburgh Symphony in 2010 and 2012.

Also coming to Heinz Hall is The Music of Queen on June 24. Tickets go on sale Feb. 10.

The show bridges the gulf between rock and classical music. It is performed by an orchestra and amplified with a full rock band and vocals.

Father-daughter princess dance

Boardman

Boardman Park’s 11th annual Father-Daughter Princess Dance will be Feb. 14 and 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Feb. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center. Fathers or father figures who have daughters age 5 to 12 can take part.

This semi-formal event will include dinner, dancing to DJ music, a professional photo for a keepsake and more.

Tickets are available at the park office on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and online at Boardmanpark.com. Tickets must be purchased in advance; none will be sold at the door.

Orchestra is back

The Minnesota Orchestra has announced its first concerts since ending a 15-month lockout of union musicians. It will have two weeks of homecoming concerts Feb. 7-15 at the renovated Orchestra Hall, downtown.
