Suspect arrested in child's death in Cleveland

CLEVELAND (AP) — Police in Cleveland have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 5-year-old girl killed while sitting in a vehicle with her mother, who was wounded.

Police spokesman Sgt. Sammy Morris says details will be released at a news conference later today. He says the suspect’s name was withheld to protect the investigation.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports a neighbor’s surveillance footage shows a green SUV pass by the shooting scene. The position of the camera blocks the view of the shooter.

Authorities identified the slain girl as Jermani Brooks. Her mother, 33-year-old Noni Brooks, was hospitalized in fair condition.
