Buffalo 71, Kent State 60

BUFFALO, N.Y.

Will Regan scored 19 of 25 points in the second half, and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Buffalo past Kent State. Devareaux Manley’s 3-pointer early in the second half gave Kent State (11-6, 2-2 Mid-American) a 34-29 lead before Regan scored five straight, sparking a 23-6 run by the Bulls. K.K. Simmons made 1 of 2 free throws with 8:43 remaining to pull the Golden Flashes within nine, 43-52, but Regan responded by scoring seven straight and giving Buffalo (9-5, 3-1) its biggest lead, 59-43. Kent State never got within single digits again. Joshua Freelove scored 14 points for the Bulls, who made 21 of 23 (91.3 percent) free throws. Javon McCrea added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Manley paced Kent State with 17 points while Kris Brewer added 11. Buffalo snapped a four-game losing streak against Kent State.

Toledo 75, Akron 61

AKRON

Julius Brown scored 25 points and J.D. Weatherspoon added a career-high 20 and grabbed 14 rebounds as Toledo beat Akron. It was Brown’s second 20-plus game after hitting a last-second shot on Wednesday to lift Toledo to a two-point win over Buffalo. He made 4 of 9 3-pointers against Akron and all five of his free throws. Brown entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in assists per game (7.2) but was credited with just one on the day. It was Toledo’s (15-2, 3-1 MAC) first win against Akron since 2007 and its first victory on Akron’s home court since 2001. Demetrius Treadwell led Akron (11-6, 3-1) with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Zips were out-rebounded 42-28. Jake Kretzer added 14 points and Nick Harney had 11. Akron made just 16 of its 27 free throw attempts.

Ohio 65, Northern Illinois 46

DEKALB, ILL.

Nick Kellogg scored 16 points, Maurice Ndour added 10 and Ohio cruised over Northern Illinois. Down 25-24 at the break, Ohio opened the second half with a 23-12 run to take a 47-37 lead with 12:18 remaining. Northern Illinois then went nearly nine minutes without scoring, allowing the Bobcats to stretch their lead to 62-40 with 3:47 left. Kellogg was 6 of 8 from the floor and hit four of five 3-pointers. Ndour made all four free throw attempts, and grabbed eight rebounds.

Miami (Ohio) 64, Ball State 52.

MUNCIE, IND.

Will Felder scored 19 points as Miami (Ohio) snapped a two-game losing skid. Miami (6-9, 2-2 Mid-American) bounces back after having lost two straight conference games by a combined eight points. Miami led by as many as 26 points with 10:26 remaining. Felder made a field goal to give Miami a 58-39 lead with 6:51 to play. Ball State closed with a 13-6 run to cap the scoring.

Eastern Michigan 72, Central Michigan 59

MOUNT PLEASANT, MICH.

Mike Talley scored 21 points in helping Eastern Michigan get past Central Michigan. Karrington Ward mastered the paint for the Eagles, pulling in 15 rebounds and scoring 15 points in the victory. Eastern Michigan (11-6, 3-1 Mid-American) entered the second period with a four point advantage, 25-21 over Central Michigan as both teams had problems hitting the basket in the first half, especially from the 3-point range.

Richmond 73, Dayton 64

RICHMOND, VA.

Kendall Anthony scored 18 points and Cedrick Lindsay added 17 as Richmond beat Dayton. Richmond (12-6, 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference) scored its final 13 points on free throws, beginning on a three-point play by Lindsay that gave the Spiders a 61-60 lead with 5:13 to play. Richmond shot just 36.5 percent from the field but went 32 of 35 from the free-throw line.

Valparaiso 75, Milwaukee 62.

VALPARAISO, IND.

LaVonte Dority scored 19 of his 27 points in the first half as Valparaiso held on to defeat Milwaukee. Dority hit a 3-pointer to give Valparaiso a 40-30 lead at halftime. Valparaiso led by as many as 13 points, 52-39 with 14:10 remaining. Matt Tiby hit two in a row to pull Milwaukee within single digits, 60-54 with 5:05 to play.

Purdue 65, Penn State 64

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND.

Terone Johnson had 14 points and five rebounds to lead Purdue. Kendall Stephens and Basil Smotherman each scored 12 points for the Boilermakers (13-5, 3-2 Big Ten), who have won three straight Big Ten games for the first time since February 2012. Tim Frazier had 19 points and 10 rebounds and D.J. Newbill added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Nittany Lions (9-10, 0-6), who have lost six straight.

VCU 80, Duquesne 65

RICHMOND, VA.

Briante Weber and Melvin Johnson each scored 12 points, all but five coming in the second half, as Virginia Commonwealth rallied to beat Duquesne. Rob Brandenberg scored 11, and Treveon Graham had 10 for VCU (14-4, 2-1 Atlantic 10). Juvonte Reddic scored nine and grabbed 10 rebounds. The lead changed hands seven times until L.G. Gill hit a 3-pointer to give Duquesne (8-8, 1-3) a 27-26 lead and the Dukes led 31-27 at halftime.

Wagner 56, Saint Francis (Pa.) 50

LORETTO, PA.

Marcus Burton scored 14 points, including a 3-pointer that helped fuel a second half go-ahead run, to lift Wagner. Trailing by as much as 13 points in the first half, Wagner (9-9, 3-1 Northeast Conference) took its first lead of the game on a Kenneth Ortiz layup that made it 32-31 early in the second half and then padded it with Burton’s trey during an 8-0 spurt.

Robert Morris 77, Mount St. Mary’s 69

EMMITSBURG, MD.

Jeremiah Worthem scored 21 points to lead Robert Morris past Mount St. Mary’s. Leading 66-65 with less than three minutes to play, Robert Morris (9-10, 4-0 Northeast Conference) closed the game by hitting 11 of 12 free throws. The Colonials shot 83.3 percent from the free throw line for the game. Worthem sank all six of his free throws and went 7 of 11 from the field.
