POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty Township:

Jan. 10

Theft: A Millicent Avenue man reported two wristwatches and a prescription bottle stolen. The loss came to $820.

Theft: A man discovered $41 missing from his home in the 1600 block of Tanglewood Drive.

Arrest: Steven R. Peyatt of Holly Drive, Girard, was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Liberty Street. The 28-year-old Peyatt was wanted on a warrant from Warren.

Theft: Orin D. Canty, 43, of Norwood Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with theft of $43 worth of laundry-detergent packets from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza.

Summons: John J. Winwood, 43, of Spitler Road, Poland, was issued a summons charging making a false alarm, a first-degree misdemeanor, after he claimed someone had tried to break into his room at a Motor Inn Drive motel. Nevertheless, police found no footprints in the snow near his room and Winwood abused the county’s 911 system despite previous warnings regarding such conduct, a report said.

Theft: A Holly Drive woman noticed her purse had been removed from her car.

Jan. 11

Citation: A traffic stop on state Route 193 led to a citation charging 22-year-old Cody L. Walter of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Weapon: A Sodom-Hutchings Road man told officers his son found a .38-caliber revolver in a nearby wooded area.

Fraud: A Logan Avenue woman learned her missing credit card had been used to make an unauthorized $59 charge at a Gypsy Lane discount store.

Arrest: Police answered a shoplifting call at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they arrested Frederick L. Dengg of state Route 225, Diamond, on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing official business after alleging Dengg, 23, became belligerent toward and failed to cooperate initially with officers, in part by refusing to provide personal information. He was not charged with theft at the time of the report, however.

Jan. 12

Arrest: Youngstown State University police apprehended and handed to township authorities David L. Anderson, 50, of Park Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Arrest: Howland police relinquished custody of 32-year-old Richard L. Harker II to Liberty officers. Harker, of Ninth Street, Niles, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Jan. 13

Theft by deception: A Trails Edge Drive woman told authorities a caller claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service said her daughter owes $3,453.67 and would soon be arrested if she failed to pay it. The caller also asked for the last four digits of the accuser’s Social Security number, a report showed.

Aggravated menacing: A clerk for Smoker Friendly, 3814 Belmont Ave., told police a male who appeared to be around age 17 threatened to harm him and simulated having a firearm after the employee refused to sell him tobacco because of his age, then asked him to leave.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 4000 block of Monticello Boulevard was found with two tires that had been cut. The damage came to $500.

Jan. 14

Domestic violence: A township girl, 15, was charged with domestic violence and being an unruly child after her mother alleged the girl had punched her 13-year-old sister’s head in an unprovoked attack after the mother had tried to discipline the older child.

Burglary: To a residence in the 900 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road via a rear window. Several bedroom drawers were ransacked before jewelry was stolen.

Arrest: Deondre K. Hill, 19, of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone drilled two holes through a bay wall at PDQ Car Wash Ltd., 1953 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, apparently in an effort to break into a maintenance room, though no entry was made.

Jan. 15

Drug paraphernalia: Officers handling a shoplifting situation at Walmart charged Aimee E. Santagata, 43, with possession of drug paraphernalia after alleging Santagata, of Herner-County Line Road, Southington, had two suspected crack-cocaine pipes in her coat pocket.

Domestic violence: A felony charge was pending against a 41-year-old Girard man after a Park Circle woman alleged that during an argument, he kicked her thigh area, causing the accuser to fall, then stomped on her neck and face, which resulted in several injuries.

Jan. 16

Arrest: Police on Belmont Avenue pulled over and took into custody 20-year-old Shequaela K. Reed of Gypsy Lane, Liberty, who was charged with driving under suspension and was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.
