North Bloomfield man being held in fatal Bristolville stabbing

BRISTOLVILLE

The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office has detained William J. Helmuth, 45, of North Bloomfield, in the Trumbull County jail in connection with the Thursday stabbing death of Bristolville man Craig C. Neighbor, 41, at the Bristol Inn, at the corner of state routes 45 and 88.

Helmuth has not been charged with the crime, even though jail records say he was booked into the jail on a murder charge.

Deputies were called to the tavern for a stabbing at about 9 p.m. Witnesses reported that Helmuth was leaving the tavern in his Silver Dodge truck heading north on Route 45.

Helmuth reportedly left the bar with a knife, a sheriff’s office report says. He was detained later that evening. As of 1 p.m. todayJAN17, Major Thomas Stewart of the sheriff’s office was not providing any information to confirm written sheriff’s reports.

Helmuth, of Creaser Road, has been named in several police reports from the sheriff’s office in recent years, some of them involving alcohol and drug intoxications that required hospitalization.

Neighbor, of Corey Hunt Road, was also named in a sheriff’s report from 2012 in which he was alleged to have come home intoxicated and assaulted the woman he lives with.
