Middle school students perform holiday concert

Canfield Village Middle School choirs presented a winter concert with the seventh- and eights-grade choirs performing at the Canfield High School auditorium Dec. 18. The CVMS Cardinal Chorale also performed, along with the Canfield High School Chamber Ensemble.
The CVMS choirs were under the direction of Stephanie Summers and accompanied by Courtney Larson on the piano.
The Cardinal Chorale, comprised of seventh- and eighth-grade students, opened the show with “Lady of the Harbor” by Joyce Eilers and then sang “Gaudeaumus Hodie” by Earlene Rentz.
Drew Bennett, president of the CHS Chamber Ensemble, introduced the choir, which sang “Still, Still, Still” by Norman Luboff and “The Twelve Days After Christmas” by Frederick Silver.
“We would like to thank Miss Summers for inviting us to sing and share our music with you,” said CHS Choir Director Kelly Scurich.
The seventh-grade choir then took the stage to sing four songs, including, “Jubilate, Alleluia!” by Mary L. Lightfoot, “Three French Carols” by Donald Moore, “Bidi Bom” by David Eddelman and “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” by Haven, Gillespie and Coots, with a solo performed by Dominic DeRamo.
The eighth-grade choir performed its portion of the show by singing “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” by Sally K. Albrecht and arranged by Althouse, “Light the Candles” by Roger Emerson, “The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth” by Simeone, Onorati, Davis, Kohan and Grossman and “Mistletoe” by Justin Beiber, Atweh and Messinger and arranged by Huff.
“Thank you for coming to our concert this evening. I know it is a busy time of the year and an hour out of holiday preparation is a lot, so we really appreciate your support. Thank you and have a happy holiday season,” said Summers as she closed the performance.
