POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Jan. 13

Weapon: A 20-year-old Struthers man was pulled over on state Route 616, where police said they found in his vehicle a set of brass knuckles. No charges had been filed at the time of the report, however.

BOARDMAN

Jan. 10

Arrest: A vehicle check near Mathews Road led to 19-year-old Joseph A. McCudden’s arrest. McCudden, of Allen Drive, Boardman, was wanted on a Hubbard warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a driving-under-suspension charge.

Theft/drugs: Lacey J. Dabler of state Route 170, Negley, was charged with theft as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after $153 worth of merchandise, including a vest, was stolen from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall. Dabler, 27, also had a syringe and a charred spoon, common in drug use, a report said.

Bad check: A supervisor with Boardman Area Court, 8110 Market St., reported receiving a $291 check that was returned for nonsufficient funds.

Weapon: Officers conducting a welfare check near Glenwood Avenue charged 39-year-old Louis M. Vari Jr. with one misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon after alleging Vari, of Gardenwood Place, Boardman, lied about having any weapons before a search of his person turned up a knife with a serrated edge.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop in the 5200 block of West Boulevard led to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia against 51-year-old Julie M. Sittig of Detwiler Road, Canfield, when, police said, they found a spoon with burn marks and a shoelace tied into a tourniquet, common in heroin use.

Theft/criminal damaging: Three men and a woman damaged a display case at Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road, before taking a $350 cellphone.

Burglary: Took place in the 30 block of Centervale Avenue. Stolen were two flat-screen TVs, a laptop computer and $500.

Theft: A man stole a $400 minibike from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Menacing: A South Avenue woman said another woman called threatening to harm the accuser.

Stolen property: Authorities arrested Shane R. Marshall, 33, of Schley Street, New Castle, Pa., and Kyla D. Costa, 37, of Avalon Drive, New Castle, during a traffic stop on U.S. Route 224, on charges of receiving stolen property and complicity to receiving stolen property, respectively, after alleging Marshall had used a stolen credit card to make a $187 purchase at Kmart. Costa then went with Marshall to another township business to sell the property for $40, police said.

Misuse of a credit card: A Red Fox Drive man learned his debit card had been used without permission to make two purchases totaling about $600 in the Cincinnati area.

Theft: Kimberly M. Slipski, 37, and James D. Ehrhart, 39, both of Bonnie Place, Boardman, were charged with stealing $58.53 worth of property, including pain medications, from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road. Slipski also was wanted on a warrant.

Drugs: Authorities with a search warrant took into custody 28-year-old Andre R. Allie Jr. of Hillman Way, Boardman, and charged him with two felony counts of possession of dangerous drugs, one felony count of drug possession and one misdemeanor count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. Among the contraband seized were papers commonly used to roll marijuana, a bag of prescription medications, a digital scale and a bag of suspected marijuana, a report said.

Possible theft: A Sheridan Road woman reported her car’s rear license plate lost or stolen.

Theft: Police at the Mahoning County jail booked via phone 52-year-old Robert G. Brown of Coitsville Road, Youngstown, related to a November theft at a Boardman store.

Harassment: A Shields Road man said he’s received a series of unwanted text messages.

Theft: A woman around age 30 stole three pairs of women’s jeans worth $200 from Macy’s.

Jan. 11

Theft: Mark J. Manypenny, 37, of Stadium Drive, Boardman, was charged with stealing a $20 folding knife from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Vandalism: Someone near Western Reserve Road and Southern Boulevard tossed a brick and did $150 in damage to a car’s windshield.

Theft/misuse of a credit card: A man told authorities three TVs were missing from his Huntington Drive apartment, and that he found several unauthorized charges to his debit-card account.

Theft: A Struthers woman in the 7400 block of Market Street noticed a book bag, clothing, perfume and other items missing from her car.

Criminal mischief: A Pulaski, Pa., woman reported another woman damaged her vehicle’s driver’s side while in the 8000 block of South Avenue.

Theft: James A. Horner, 20, of East Margaret Avenue, Niles, was charged after a $79 cellphone case was stolen from Walmart.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 4000 block of South Avenue before someone rummaged through a box containing various medications. Police said they found no signs of forced entry, though.

Theft: An Austintown woman reported a $500 cellphone stolen at a Boardman-Canfield Road restaurant.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed from a vehicle in the 7100 block of Amherst Avenue.

Jan. 12

Misuse of a credit card: An Applecrest Court woman alleged her son, 13, placed $200 worth of unauthorized charges on her debit card.

Theft: A woman reported a $200 Kindle device missing from her apartment in the 60 block of Shields Road.

Jan. 13

Misuse of a credit card: A Melbourne Avenue man discovered his debit card had been used to make 29 fraudulent purchases in Trumbull County totaling $2,390.47.

Theft: Various hand tools and coins were removed from a vehicle in the 7400 block of West Boulevard.

Misuse of a credit card: A man noticed his wallet had been stolen in the 600 block of Boardman-Canfield Road before realizing his debit card was used to make a $45 unauthorized charge at a Youngstown gas station.

Domestic violence: Archie L. Holmes, 44, of Applecrest Court, Boardman, was charged with the crime after a woman alleged Holmes had charged toward her, then punched her mouth during an argument related to their teenage son. The accuser had an injured lip.

Jan. 14

Citation: Officers investigated a one-car accident near Shields Road before citing 23-year-old Timothy J. Dennison of North Main Street, Poland, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle impaired.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Melbourne Avenue led to 31-year-old Erin R. Hallas’ arrest on a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments. Hallas, of Melbourne, Boardman, was accused of having a syringe and a small piece of broken glass likely from a crack-cocaine pipe.
