Investigating death

WARREN

The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s office is “reviewing the file” and will “make our finding” when finished with the review, Prosecutor Dennis Watkins said of the investigation conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation into the death of TaeMarr Walker.

Watkins estimated that it may take “some weeks” before he is sure that he understands every bit of the investigation and is ready to either release information on the investigation to the public or take the matter before a county grand jury.

Walker, 24, of Kenwood Drive Southwest, died during a confrontation with a Warren police officer Oct. 19 on Risher Road Southwest. He died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

The BCI turned over the information it had gathered to the prosecutor’s office last week.

‘Total loss’ in fire

WARREN

The Warren fire chief says that the fire at Lifetime Muffler, 2643 W. Market St., caused about $500,000 in damage and resulted in a “total loss.”

The 3:01 p.m. Monday call may have come a little late, Fire Chief Ken Nussle said, because a worker at the shop apparently tried to extinguish the flames himself with several fire extinguishers, and the fire was at an advanced stage when fire crews arrived.

The shop is just a few minutes west of the main fire station, and the response time was good, Nussle said. Everyone was out of the building when fire crews arrived, and there were no injuries.

A worker using a torch caught the car on fire, then the fire spread to other vehicles. Two vehicles, including a 1964 Corvette, were removed from the building, but four others were destroyed, Nussle said.

Shooting reported

CAMPBELL

A resident of the 10 block of Woodland Avenue reported a shooting to city police early Wednesday.

The victim told police that she and her son were asleep, when they were awakened at 3:40 a.m. by gunshots close to their home.

Police noticed three bullet holes in the house — including one caused by a bullet that entered the house through a front window and was found lodged in a kitchen wall.

Officers photographed the holes and also collected a spent shell casing found in the street and a copper bullet found on the front porch.

The victim told police she doesn’t have any enemies and doesn’t understand why this would happen to her.

The investigation is ongoing.

Charged in assault

youngstown

Police arrested a 51-year-old South Side man about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday after his brother was slashed in the face with a box cutter.

Officers were called to 85 Ellenwood Ave. where the victim, who was not identified in the police report, said he was sitting with his brother on the couch and told his brother that he should stop drinking and get something to eat and he was then cut in the face with the box cutter.

The man, Tony Cheirs, of Youngstown, was taken to the Mahoning County jail on a charge of felonious assault. The victim had blood on his face and shirt but refused medical treatment, reports said.
