CANFIELD

New officers and board members were installed when the Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club gathered recently for its annual meeting at A La Cart Catering.

Newly elected officers are Roy Haren, president; Joe Wojtowicz, vice president; Maureen Stein, treasurer; and Kevin Stein, secretary.

Board members are Steve Fabry, Chris Monske and Harry Harker, trustees. Outgoing president Allan Avnet and his wife, Jane, received thanks from the board for their hard work and dedication since starting the club more than four years ago.

The club presented one of its sight-impaired members the balance of a fund that members raised last year to buy specialized amateur radio equipment. Dave and Liz Beatty, who own and operate the club’s local repeater station, also received recognition.

The club, wrarc.net, promotes ham radio by providing training classes periodically at ITT Tech, Youngstown, and at the Federal Communications Commission’s licensing examinations for the three amateur radio license classifications, Technician, General and Amateur Extra Class.

Also, members provide voluntary communications services to local agencies for various community events. Some members participate in the American Radio Relay League’s Amateur Radio Emergency Services training for providing emergency communications services to local first responders in the event of natural disasters.

Monthly meetings take place at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road, Canfield. The next meeting will be Feb. 18.

All local licensed radio amateurs are welcome to attend, along with those interested in learning more about the hobby. For information call Haren at 330-717-3695 or email harens@juno.com.
