Gardening Basics

What: Before you begin planning for upcoming season, learn about new and tried-and-true garden resources. Horticulture educators will talk about the best for seeds, tools and ways to keep track of your garden throughout the year.

Healthy Night Out

When: Friday, 6-8 p.m.

What: Free Friday cooking classes. Shannon Blackshire, local tea artesian and owner of Her Primitive Ways, on using fresh herbs in soups and healthy broths.

Birding Basics

When: Sunday, 1- 2:30 p.m.

What: Learn bird identification basics as we focus on birds commonly observed at bird feeders.

Details: Field guides and binoculars will be provided to borrow, but participants can bring their own. Co-sponsored with Canton Audubon Society. Registration, not required, can be made by contacting 330-823-7487 or naturecenter@mountunion.edu or mount-union.edu/nature-center.

Oh Dear ... Deer Hike

When: Sunday, 2 p.m.

What: After short indoor presentation about Ohio’s state animal, we’ll drive to Deerpath Trail to explore Hitchcock Wood while looking for these shy creatures.

Where: Meet at Boardman Branch Library.

Details: Moderate rating, 2 miles.

Winter Growing

When: Tuesday, 6-8 p.m.

What: Danielle Seidita and Liberty Merrill, Iron Roots Urban Farm staff, will demonstrate how to extend a farmer’s growing season.
