Campbell police arrest man after finding gun in truck

CAMPBELL

City police arrested a 48-year-old Campbell man Tuesday after finding a loaded handgun during a traffic stop.

Anthony G. Venneri, of the 1000 block of Shady Run Road, was charged with carrying concealed weapons, a fourth-degree felony, and having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers on patrol noticed a truck with a loud muffler driving on Murray Avenue. The truck also veered left of center several times.

When police stopped the truck on Wilson Avenue, they identified the driver and his passengers, then searched the truck and those inside it.

Police immediately found the loaded .45-cal. handgun with six live rounds under the passenger seat where Venneri was seated. He admitted the handgun was his.

Venneri was arrested and transported to the Mahoning County Justice Center, where he will be held without bond until his initial court appearance at 9 a.m. Friday in Campbell Municipal Court.

The driver — identified as Paul Brittain, of the 200 block of Hamrock Drive in Campbell — was cited for the loud muffler. Both he and the other passenger were released.
