Two large fires heavily damaged a business and an apartment building in the city Monday, the Warren Fire Department reported.

A small kitchen fire sent a man to the hospital, the department said.

The first call, to Lifetime Muffler at 2643 W. Market St., came in at 3 p.m., the department said. A fire started there while employees were working on a vehicle that was up on a lift.

The fire department fought the blaze for an hour and a half, a department spokesman said. The cause is under investigation.

The second fire call came at 3:10 p.m. A four-unit apartment building at 148 Washington St. NE had to be evacuated. All four apartments were damaged, with the most damage done to the upstairs units, the department said. There were no serious injuries.

Howland firefighters assisted Warren at the apartment building fire. The cause is under investigation.

A small kitchen fire reported about 5 p.m. at 712 Vine St. sent the resident there to a hospital with smoke inhalation, but his condition was not serious, the department said. The fire started under a pot on the stove.
