YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a woman on charges of obstructing justice and resisting arrest after she reportedly lied to officers looking for her brother, who was wanted on a probation violation.

Arquwonna Wright, 22, was arrested at a Woodcrest Avenue apartment on the city’s East Side about 10 a.m. Thursday after she told U.S. marshals and police the man they were looking for on a probation violation, her brother, Aaron Wright, 26, was not in her apartment.

His probation violation was on a charge of intimidation of a witness.

She is in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of $15,000 bond and appeared Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court before Magistrate Anthony Sertick.

Reports said police officers knocked on the door of the apartment for about 10 minutes announcing who they were but could get no one to answer the door, although they could hear sounds from a television.

Officers then got a key from a maintenance person and opened the door, where they were greeted by Arquwonna Wright, reports said. She was dressed in just a bra and panties and told officers she was taking a bath while they were knocking, reports said.

Police asked if Aaron Wright was inside, and she told them he was not, reports said, despite being warned by officers that if she was lying, she would be arrested.

Reports said officers went inside and found Aaron Wright hiding in a bathroom. He was taken into custody, and Arquwonna Wright also was arrested.

Reports said, however, she resisted efforts to be handcuffed. When she was handcuffed, she refused efforts by officers to put on a hooded sweatshirt or a pair of sweatpants to cover her.

During her ride to the jail, reports said, she swore at officers and made racial and sexual comments about them. She had to be placed in a solitary-confinement cell at the jail because of her attitude, police said.

She bit a corrections officer at the jail and caused him to bleed before she was arraigned, authorities said.
