A garage sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at West Side Cats, 2217 Mahoning Ave. The event will feature $5 a bag or make a deal.
This month’s special at the shelter is $10 for any cat or kitten. All animals are spayed or neutered and are up-to-date on their health care.
Man dies in crash
LISBON
Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lisbon Post said a 54-year-old Hanoverton man died in a single-vehicle accident about 7:10 a.m. Friday.
A news release from the post says George Chekan III, was driving west on state Route 172 when the pickup he was driving left the road, hit the end of a guardrail and went over an embankment before flipping over and coming to rest on its wheels.
Chekan was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt, the release said.
Accident probed
HOWLAND
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Southington Post is investigating a two-vehicle, fatal crash just after midnight Friday on state Route 82 near the North River Road overpass.
Robert Jakubec Jr., 54, of Niles was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where he died several hours later of his injuries.
Troopers said Kevin S. Miller II, 23, of Warren, was westbound in a 2005 Dodge Caravan on Route 82 and lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered roadway and crossed over the median, striking Jakubec’s eastbound Ford Escort nearly head-on.
Miller suffered minor injuries in the 12:50 a.m. crash.
Kinsman man dies
GUSTAVUS
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on Gardner-Barclay Road in which an SUV slid on ice, went off the right side of the road and hit a tree. The driver, Ellwood V. McCracken, 69, of Kinsman, who was eastbound, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:20 p.m. Thursday crash.

Reappointed to MetroParks board
YOUNGSTOWN
Judge Mark A. Belinky of Mahoning County Probate Court has reappointed Valencia Marrow and Dr. Robert J. Durick to three-year terms on the five-member Mill Creek MetroParks Board of Commissioners. Durick has been on the board since January 2010 and Marrow since January 2011.
Stabbing reported on South Side
YOUNGSTOWN
Police are investigating a stabbing about 11:40 p.m. Thursday at a 137 E. Avondale Ave. home on the South Side.
Reports said officers were called for a stabbing and found Aaron Lamont Jones, 19, of Redondo Road running away from the home with a wound to his back.
Jones told officers he was at the home visiting a woman when the woman got into an argument with another man, and when Jones tried to break it up, he was stabbed.
Inside the home, officers found a knife covered in blood. There was no word on whether anyone else was inside the home when police entered.
