The ongoing investigation into last month’s Target data breach revealed that the damage is much worse than initially reported.

Target announced today that the personal information of up to 70 million customers, including names, mailing addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, was stolen in the massive breach that occurred in November and December.

Target said it was offering one year of free credit monitoring and identity-theft protection to all customers who shopped at U.S. stores.

Today’s news from Target comes as local banks continue to deal with the fallout from the breach. There have been a number of reports this week of debit-card cancellations at local banks.
