Police say two masked men got away with cash from the safe of a South Side store about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Employees of Family Dollar, 2708 Glenwood Ave., said they were closing the store when two men dressed in black with their faces covered came in and demanded money. One of them had a handgun, reports said. They took the money from the safe before running out of the store.

Police seized almost $2,000 in cash and 12 bags of suspected marijuana after raiding a 535 W. Myrtle Ave. home about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Arrested on a charge of trafficking in drugs was 21-year-old Darius Javey of Youngstown.

Javey was taken to the Mahoning County jail to await arraignment today in municipal court.

Vice-squad officers also seized small amounts of drugs and drug paraphernalia, serving warrants later at 2760 Hunter St. about 6:15 p.m. and 1939 Donald Ave. about 7:20 p.m.

Robotics contest

The Lego Robotics District Tournament will take place Saturday at Austintown Middle School, 800 S. Raccoon Road, and two AMS teams will be part of the competition.

The tournament starts at 8 a.m. with the awards ceremony at 4 p.m. Teams will have to come up with an innovative idea to help after a natural disaster.

The natural-disaster theme is developed by FIRST Robotics Competition.

At the regional, district and state competitions, the teams have to build a robot that will follow commands, and they have to develop an idea to help after a natural disaster.

Park official to be sworn in Tuesday

Allen Seman will be sworn in by Judge Thomas A. Swift of Trumbull County Probate Court as a park commissioner for the Howland Township Park Board at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the county probate courtroom.

Jackie Mills, reappointed to another term as park commissioner, will take her oath of office at the same time.

Arms Museum exhibit ends
