POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:
GIRARD
Jan. 3
Theft: A $100 snow blower was removed from a garage in the 1100 block of Tod Avenue.
Jan. 4
Assault: Police arrested Corey D. Matey, no age given, at his Girard residence on North Ward Avenue on an assault charge when another man alleged that while walking on Church Hill Road, Matey got out of a vehicle and struck his right elbow with a baseball bat after an earlier fight between them.
Jan. 5
Counterfeit: A fake $50 bill was passed at Burger King, 322 S. State St.
Criminal mischief: A man in the 100 block of Church Hill Road deliberately kicked and dented a vehicle.
Drugs: A vehicle check near West Prospect Street resulted in summonses charging Michael A. Mills, 19, of West Liberty Street, Girard, and Kieran J. Hernon, 20, of Tod Avenue, Warren, with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A pill bottle containing 1 gram of suspected marijuana was found, police said.
Drugs: Officers near East Broadway and Highland avenues pulled over and issued a summons to 19-year-old Austin W. Blascak after saying Blascak, of Oregon Avenue, McDonald, had a suspected marijuana pipe and 4 grams of suspected marijuana. He also was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Jan. 6
Theft: A man reported a gas stove, a guitar, a keyboard, clothing and other property stolen from his home in the 200 block of South Market Street. The loss came to $1,200.
LIBERTY
Jan. 2
Drug paraphernalia: Officers dealt with a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they cited 28-year-old Russell L. Hamilton on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after alleging Hamilton, of Amsterdam Road, Grove City, Pa., had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe.
Stolen property: Gerald R. Brown, 50, of Sycamore Avenue, Youngstown, faced a misdemeanor receiving-stolen-property charge after an $80 wireless Internet streamer device was stolen from Walmart. Brown, who also was wanted on warrants from Youngstown, admitted having illegally returned the item to the store, police said.
Theft: A 30-day temporary tag was removed from a vehicle in the 200 block of Colonial Drive.
Jan. 3
Arrest: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to book 25-year-old Lavar D. Paige of Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, on a township warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court regarding traffic violations.
Recovered property: Officers found a 2002 Oldsmobile van in the 4000 block of Jefferson Court after the vehicle had been stolen in the township.
Harassment: A Northgate Drive woman said a Warren woman, 20, sent her disturbing text messages and Facebook posts that included threats to shoot the accuser or shoot at her residence.

Arrest: Authorities conducted a welfare check in the 2900 block of Northview Drive, where they took into custody 36-year-old Lisa A. Alexander of Northview, Liberty, on a warrant from Auglaize County, accusing her of failing to appear for a child-support hearing.
Jan. 6
Arrest: Police assisting the Ohio State Highway Patrol after a vehicular accident arrested 38-year-old Rushad E. Chambers of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.
HUBBARD
Jan. 2
Stolen property: Tyler T. Karabin, 20, of Staatz Drive, Austintown, was charged with one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property after a Chestnut Ridge Drive woman reported her $170 iPhone stolen. Despite denying knowing the device’s whereabouts, Karabin had used it to take photographs, police said.
Jan. 3
Citation: Officers gave a minor-misdemeanor citation to 37-year-old Brenda L. Smith of Woodland Avenue, Hubbard, after a neighbor said her loose dog was in his yard barking at a family member in violation of the city’s leash law, a report showed.
Jan. 5
Assault: A Scott Street man alleged his apartment complex’s manager struck his chest after becoming angered that the accuser had asked her daughter to move her vehicle so he could get out of the driveway.
Jan. 6
Cruelty to animals: Police received a complaint about a dog continually barking outdoors in inclement weather before issuing a summons charging 84-year-old Doris J. Jones of Ruth Drive, Hubbard, with cruelty to animals. The dog was left on the outside front porch with no food and undrinkable water in conditions that included a wind chill of minus 31 degrees, a report said.
