Glenwood Ave. robbery

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown police are investigating an apparent armed robbery at a Family Dollar store on Glenwood Avenue. The robbery occurred about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a gun was used during the robbery. The weapon appeared to be a black revolver in store surveillance video.

Two men with scarves over their faces walked into the store and demanded money.

The robbers obtained $600 from the store, then ran toward Indianola Avenue.

Fiscal officer resigns

After 11 years on the job, Poland Township’s fiscal officer Joseph Granitto resigned for retirement purposes at Wednesday’s township trustees meeting.

Granitto’s resignation will be effective March 31.

“We have a good township,” Granitto said. “They have more money in the bank now than they did when I came.”

Also at the meeting, township trustees decided to advertise for a new fiscal officer.

NiSource gives $15K

Poland Township trustees, chief of police and school representatives accepted a $15,000 check from NiSource Midstream Services LLC, a natural-gas company that invested $375 million in the Mahoning Valley, with the Hickory Bend Processing Plant in New Middletown.

The $15,000 will go toward a student resource officer for Poland Local Schools.
