Campbell police arrest man on numerous charges

CAMPBELL

City police arrested a 35-year-old Youngstown man with a history of criminal charges on charges of of driving under suspension and of having a loaded handgun with him.

Morris D. Perry, 35, of East Florida Avenue, was stopped by police at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday on McCartney Road after a random registration check revealed he was driving the vehicle under suspension.

His driver’s license had been suspended because of child support and drug offenses.

When officers approached the vehicle, they smelled fresh, unburned marijuana coming from inside.

Perry told police he had smoked marijuana before getting into the vehicle, according to the police report.

Police searched the vehicle and found a loaded .45-caliber handgun in the center console.

Perry, however, is prohibited from having weapons because of prior convictions, police said.

Perry is charged with illegal possession of weapons, a third-degree felony; carrying concealed weapons, a fifth-degree felony; and driving under suspension, a first-degree misdemeanor.

He was placed in city jail without bond, and is set to make an initial court appearance in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Friday.
