Accuser in Winston case to sue FSU QB

Accuser in Winston case to sue FSU QB

The attorney of the woman who accused Jameis Winston of sexual assault plans to file a civil lawsuit against the Florida State quarterback and the Tallahassee Police Department.

“I want heads to roll,” Patricia Carroll, the accuser’s attorney, told ABC News on Wednesday.

Winston was accused of raping a former female Florida State student in December 2012. State attorney Willie Meggs opted not press charges against Winston in December, stating there was a lack of evidence to support the charge and there was not a reasonable chance of conviction.

Carroll said she will “absolutely” sue TPD, Winston and possibly the university.

YSU softball to play 56-game schedule

I also think this is a schedule that will challenge us, but one that we can be successful as well.”

The Penguins home opener at the new YSU Softball Complex is a doubleheader against Eastern Michigan, March 18, at 3 p.m.

Tigers agree to 1-year deal with Iglesias

DETROIT

The Tigers have agreed to a one-year deal with shortstop Jose Iglesias.

Iglesias finished second in last year’s AL Rookie of the Year vote, hitting .303 in 109 games with Boston and the Tigers. Detroit acquired him from the Red Sox in a three-way deal shortly before the trade deadline.

Iglesias replaced Jhonny Peralta at shortstop for Detroit while Peralta was serving a drug suspension last season. Peralta signed with St. Louis during the offseason. Iglesias is part of an infield the Tigers hope will be improved defensively in 2014. Miguel Cabrera is moving from third base back to first to replace Prince Fielder, who was traded to the Texas Rangers.

Warrant links Aaron Hernandez to shooting

BRISTOL, Conn.

A search warrant filed in Connecticut indicates that police think former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez was in an SUV when someone inside shot two people to death in Boston in 2012.

The warrant does not indicate who investigators believe pulled the trigger or suggest a motive.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murder in connection with another shooting: last year’s killing of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd near the ex-player’s North Attleborough, Mass., home.

The warrant provides some of the first details of Hernandez’s alleged link to the drive-by shooting that killed Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado in Boston’s South End. No charges have been filed in that case. The warrant, first reported by The Hartford Courant, was filed in Bristol. It seeks phone calls a Hernandez associate made from jail.

WASHINGTON

Jay Gruden has completed his interview for the Washington Redskins’ coaching job.

The team confirmed Wednesday that Gruden met with general manager Bruce Allen at Redskins Park, making the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator the sixth known candidate to interview as a possible replacement for Mike Shanahan.

Gruden has ties with several people within the Redskins’ organization. He worked under Allen as an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett in the UFL. Gruden has drawn interest from at least three other teams seeking to fill a head coaching vacancy. He interviewed with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday.
