Ethnic heritage group will host speaker

The Ethnic Heritage Society will host speaker Loretta Hanuschak Ekoniak, president of the American Slovak Cultural Association of the Mahoning Valley and editor of its bimonthly newsletter, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 18 at Kravitz Deli, 3135 Belmont Ave.

Ekoniak and her husband, along with their two sons, have twice traveled to Slovakia to visit their ancestral villages and meet their Slovak cousins. Her topic will be “It’s Not Your Dzedo’s Slovakia.” Ekoniak co-wrote the book “Slovaks of the Greater Mahoning Valley,” published in 2011.
