Several events and meetings have been canceled or delayed and offices closed today due to the forecast frigid temperatures. A listing:
Youngstown school board organization meeting has been canceled. The swearing in of the new board members will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Irene L. Ward Building, 20 W. Wood St. The organizational meeting is rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 14.
All libraries of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County are closed today, said Heidi Daniel, library director.
Oh Wow! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology will be closed all day.
The Butler Institute of American Art on Wick Avenue in Youngstown is closed. It will reopen at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center has canceled the Coffee and Contemplation program. The program will resume from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 7. Open to the public and held the first Tuesday of each month, the program offers a speaker and time for personal prayer and group interaction. For information, contact Dana Stiger at 330-964-8886.
The Girard school board has changed its meeting to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the high school library, 1244 Shannon Road. The meeting may adjourn to executive session.
Youngstown State University student orientation has been rescheduled for Thursday.
The Friends of East Library of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County meeting, Early Road, has been canceled due to weather.
The Leetonia Community Public Library will be closed due to the severe weather. Any scheduled events will be rescheduled for another day.
Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership offices are closed including the administrative office at 1325 Fifth Ave., the Head Start Administrative office at 1350 Fifth Ave., all nine Head Start classroom sites in Mahoning County and the Western Mahoning County office at 305 N. 15th St., Sebring. Depending on the weather situation, all MYCAP offices are scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
Allied Waste/Republic Services and Waste-Tech Services suspended commercial, industrial and residential trash hauling services out of safety concerns for its workers. The companies will push back its collection schedules by one day and work Saturday. Allison Brothers and Waste Management had not suspended service today as of Monday evening.
Mahoning County District Board of Health offices, including immunization clinics in Youngstown, Austintown and Boardman, are closed today and will reopen Wednesday.
A flight from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport on Monday to Sanford, Fla., was canceled Monday night.
The Warren City Income Tax Department is closed today.
