Power restored to areas of Girard and Youngstown

GIRARD

About 200 customers in the Parkhurst area of Girard and Wirt Street area of Youngstown were without power today but got it back this afternoon, said Robin Patton, area manager for Ohio Edison.

It is the second day the area has lost power, with 5,500 customers being affected Monday night in a wider area taking in Liberty and Weathersfield townships and the Village of McDonald.

Downed power lines, possibly the result of high winds, are responsible for today’s problems, Patton said.

The Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., was going to close for the day Tuesday because of the low temperatures, but Jude Signoriello, program manager at the facility, said she and her husband decided to open it at 9 a.m. to help those affected by the Tuesday-morning power outage.

As of 4 p.m., the Girard center and Salvation Army were providing meals and a warm place for seven children and planning to stay open until the power was restored, Signoriello said.

Linda Beil, Trumbull County Emergency Management director, said damage from frozen pipes at two mobile home parks on Trumbull Avenue is likely after being without power much of the day.
